I have been informed that the Edwardsville City Council will be voting to purchase the land for a future sports complex at tomorrow’s City council meeting. The sports complex will have baseball and softball fields as well as other athletic fields from the information I have seen about the project. I think additional fields in Edwardsville are long overdue and if the Council approves the purchase I feel this will be a great asset to our community. Clearly I am a little biased and also see the need for additional fields when scheduling our 65 teams with over 900 players.
If you and your son or daughter are available I encourage you to attend the Edwardsville City Council meeting tomorrow, Tuesday, April 21 in the City Hall council chambers at 7:00pm. I know we are a couple of weeks away from issuing uniforms, but if your child has their uniform from last season they could wear it to show support for the new sports complex that will benefit so many. I believe the vision Mayor Patton and the Edwardsville City leaders have will make our community an even better place to raise a family. Mayor Patton has shown that he is committed to improving our outstanding community not only for us but for our children and generations to come.
Children need to be physically active as opposed to sitting at home playing video games or on some other electronic device. Having a sports complex will allow more children to be active as well as learn valuable skills such as team work and respect that go along with being a part of a team, not to mention the social benefits of meeting new people. I hope you can find time to make it to the City Council meeting to show your support for this outstanding project and let the council members know how important this is for our children and community.
