While Madison County Chairman Alan Dunstan touts how well he thinks Madison County is doing, the truth is taxes are too high and people and businesses are leaving the county.
The Metro East has suffered the most in recent years when it comes to population loss. Since 2010, the Illinois side of the St. Louis metro region has lost an estimated 11,500 people, while the Missouri side gained more than 35,000 residents.
However, just over 19,000 Illinoisans have left the area since 2010, including 11,980 St. Clair County residents and 5,983 Madison County residents.
When people are leaving your county, things are not good.
